A state-of-the-art cattle barn and large-capacity manure storage facility have been built in Kőtelek

A state-of-the-art cattle barn and large-capacity manure storage facility have been built in Kőtelek

Spacious and well-designed barn space

The central element of the project is an 18 × 42-meter steel-framed cattle barn, constructed with modern structural solutions and a well-thought-out interior layout.

The barn was constructed as a steel-framed hall building, providing a large-span, column-free interior space. This design is particularly advantageous for livestock farming, as it allows for the comfortable housing of animals, efficient feeding, and the smooth organization of mechanized work.

During construction, the entire structural process was carried out, from site preparation to the handover of the building. Following earthwork, steel fabrication, formwork, and concrete pouring, the steel support structure of the hall was completed; it was surface-treated after fabrication and then assembled on-site.

The roof and side walls of the building are clad with trapezoidal sheet metal, which provides a durable, weather-resistant, and cost-effective solution for agricultural buildings. Usability is enhanced by large, suspended steel-framed sliding doors, which allow for easy movement of agricultural machinery within the building.

Efficient livestock management layout inside the barn

When designing the barn’s interior, the primary focus was on well-organized livestock management and simplifying daily operations. The interior layout allows for group housing of animals and the transparent organization of feeding and animal movement.

A pen system and feeding rails have been installed in the barn, ensuring orderly animal placement and easy feeding. The feeding rails placed along the feeding aisle allow the animals to access the feed comfortably and safely.

An animal handling area has also been set up next to the barn, where the drive-through chute and hoof trimming stall enable the safe, individual handling of animals during veterinary procedures.

Large-scale manure storage facility to serve the farm

As part of the development, a manure storage facility measuring 24 × 72 meters and 5.5 meters high was also constructed, which is a key component of the farm’s operations.

The facility ensures the controlled and safe storage of the manure produced, which is not only important from an operational standpoint but also essential for compliance with environmental regulations.

During the construction of the manure storage facility, following earthworks, steel installation, formwork, and concrete pouring, a steel-framed hall structure was erected here as well. After the steel structure was manufactured and surface-treated, on-site assembly took place, followed by the installation of trapezoidal sheet metal cladding on the roof and side surfaces.

The stability of the structure is ensured by Z-beams, while the sliding door attached to the building facilitates manure handling and loading tasks.

State-of-the-art livestock infrastructure

The Kőtelek project is a good example of how the development of modern livestock farms is no longer merely an architectural task, but involves the creation of a complex technological system.

The steel-framed barn, the well-organized pen system, the animal handling technology, and the high-capacity manure storage facility together form an infrastructure that ensures the farm’s efficient, safe, and sustainable operation in the long term.
